Dental cone beam computed tomography (CT) is a special type of x-ray equipment used when regular dental or facial x-rays are not sufficient. Your doctor may use this technology to produce three dimensional (3-D) images of your teeth, soft tissues, nerve pathways, and bone in a single scan. These can assist in viewing your root canals, areas of previous extractions, and even help prepare for better implant placement.
At Dental Wellness of Albany, we have a KaVo imaging device for digital panoramic and cone beam 3D imaging. Patients benefit from digital imaging without being exposed to a high radiation dose as compared to the last generation.
Digital X-rays
We require an FMX (full mouth X-rays) for a new patient when doing a comprehensive exam. In order to have a baseline and a good diagnosis, we normally do not accept transferred X-rays. We do not want to miss any infection inside the bone which is only possible to see with X-rays. Each patient is treated in an individual manner in our office. Digital x-rays are today’s way of using technology to provide a clear image without the pollution of older films and their poorly recycled solutions.
