Extraction and PRF
Sometimes a tooth needs to come out. Wisdom teeth, as an example, may or may not have enough room to completely and harmoniously fit into your mouth. The best solution may be to elect to have them removed. If Dr. Herzog or Dr. Primomo feel confident in extracting your tooth, they will offer you that option or may refer you to an oral surgeon. Many patients may elect for the doctor to remove the tooth and use additional measures to ensure the infection is minimized. Treatment options beyond the standard may include the use of ozone and/or their Fotona Twin Lase Laser to assist in cleaning out the extraction site. It is now standard of care to offer each patient going through an extraction procedure the opportunity to have a bone graft to maximize the site’s volume by providing a scaffold for your cells to create new bone. A more holistic way may be to use your own blood called Platelet Rich Fibrin or PRF as a graft material. As a biological dentist, I feel these few additional steps can be taken which may result in better healing and fewer post-operative complications, such as infection and dry socket.
